Operations Manager/Business Unit Leader

 Tracy, California


  • Lead production activities, plan production and establish priorities to ensure safety, quality, customer satisfaction, productivity, cost control/management and continuous improvement.



  • Lead, develop, coach and evaluate operators and Team/Line leads.
  • Lead safety meetings and achieve safety objectives through monthly training and inspections. Hold operators and supervisors accountable for the near miss program.
  • Lead and manage environmental compliance issues.
  • Understands, uses and drives optimization of the production planning model to plan production. Meeting delivery schedule (95% On time delivery), understanding resource requirements, identifying gaps and putting in countermeasures to ensure gaps are met are critical to the success of this role.
  • Conduct layered process audits (LPA) on a daily basis and implement new LPAs based on customer importance.
  • Ensure production team meets established targets and follow process instructions.
  • Manage and improve cross training of operators
  • Issue blanket jobs through material planner workbench (Syteline is the Dynatect ERP system) and ensure jobs are closed in a timely manner.
    Assist LEAN engineer in implementation of Kaizens, LEAN programs
  • Work with sales and engineering staff to develop accurate BOMs. Also drives cost and process improvement projects to ensure margin improvements.
  • Oversees the facility's maintenance activities. Develops and maintains preventative maintenance plans.
    Recommends and assists with the procurement of production related equipment and machinery.
  • Working with the Buyer, develops a Kan Ban system for key raw materials. Understand the concept of safety stock, lead time and reorder point and ensures critical raw materials and supplies are available.
  • In conjunction with peers (HR, Engineering, Quality, etc) help develop and maintain a positive work environment for all employees.




  • Bachelors Degree Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial engineering preferred.  Or equivalent professional experience, 10-15 yrs Supervisory/Management experience.

  • Five or more years experience in rubber, polyurethane or plastics molding of low to medium volume custom/niche products is ideal. This can be substituted by other niche manufacturing experience. Background in Lean Manufacturing and/or Continuous Improvement Environment is desired.
  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong planning and time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities is required.
    Ability to manage and achieve both strategic and tactical goals. You should be able to manage day to day issues without losing focus on the long term improvement goals in a fast paced environment.

  • Management and supervisory skills. Conflict management skills and patience to drive a culture change is an essential skill.
  • Good computer skills Microsoft Office Package or equivalent (word, spreadsheet, etc.)
  • Good math and cost estimating skills and mechanical aptitude.
    Metrics driven mindset is preferred.
  • Project management skills and experience is preferred.
    Experience working with Rubber, Plastics and/or Polyurethane molding is preferred.
    Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a definite plus.
