Material Planning Supervisor



The Material Planning Supervisor provides direct, daily leadership to planning employees in his/her area, focusing on core operational values of safety, quality, delivery, cost management, and inventory, (SQDCI).

Responsible for creating and maintaining a master production schedule that aligns materials and production capacity to the Sales and Operations Planning forecast and incoming customer orders. Coordinates with the operations team to develop detailed manufacturing schedules to optimize customer service, capacity utilization, and inventory.

To accomplish this it will require them to:

  1. Align supply and demand by actively participating in Sales & Operations Planning Process and Weekly Business Review Meetings. Facilitate between sales and operations teams so that all are in alignment on "the plan".
  2. Develop and maintain a strong planning team.
  3. Develop and maintain material strategies, "Plan for Every Part", that supports production needs and optimizes inventory turns.
  4. Utilize a continuous-improvement mindset to question existing process and drive continuous improvement.



  • Works in a safe, and courteous manner.
  • Publishes accurate lead times to sales and customer service for quoting.
  • Ensures all customer orders are scheduled in a timely manner and within established constraints.
  • Takes output of monthly Sales & Operations Planning Meeting to align longer-term capacity and material requirements to expected customer demand.
  • Analyze material requirements planning (MRP) and capacity requirements planning (CRP) reports to determine requirements to meet customer demand.
  • Prepares data for the Weekly Business Review Meetings. Coordinates with operations team to establish a capacity level that supports customer demand at required lead times, while optimizing labor costs.
  • Review order policies, safety stock levels, lead times, manufacturing bottlenecks and constraints, to develop manufacturing and replenishment strategies that support customer delivery comments while optimizing costs.
  • Coordinates with Engineering to ensure timely ETO releases.
  • Interacts with Customer Service to provide timely and accurate information on product availability, schedule improvements, and general inquiries.
  • Leads cross-functional teams in the analysis and improvement of customer on-time to promise performance and inventory turns.
  • Generates and analyzes reports to drive actions on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. These reports include, but are not limited to, orders, backlog, long-term planning analysis, customer delivery performance, inventory analysis



  • Manages and evaluates work performance of the planning team in order to facilitate performance management, merit promotions, transfers, dismissals, commendations, etc.




Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or field related degree; or equivalent work related experience. 

Three to five years progressive experience in production planning.

Strong working knowledge of MRP and inventory management principles. APICS CPIM Certification desired.

Knowledge of computerized purchasing systems, inventory systems, scheduling techniques, general manufacturing.

Basic understanding of Lean and problem solving concepts such as pareto's, 5-why.

Ability to interpret drawings and prints.

Proficient in Microsoft products, especially Excel.


Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and pre-placement physical with lift test required.
